What is the Eugene Poetry Slam?
The Eugene Poetry Slam is the place for great local poets, a lively audience, and renowned guest spoken word artists. The night begins with an Open Mic, followed by a Featured National Poet and then moves into the Slam itself.
What is a slam?
'Slam' is the competitive performance of spoken word poetry. It generally fuses elements of theater with a more traditional literary reading, which makes for riveting and moving performances. The heightened competitive stakes of a slam serve to get people involved in reading, writing, performing, and enjoying poetry!
The Eugene Poetry Slam is open to all and is judged by volunteers from the audience. You can sign up for the open mic, to be a judge, or to compete.
The Eugene Poetry Slam is supported in part by the Lane Arts Council and The City of Eugene Cultural Services. THANK YOU!
